Description

Are we really in a new Presidential era? This is the question people have asked ever since Donald Trump was elected. This explores answers that question in four meetings by situating the current Presidential moment within the long view of the American Presidency, extending from George Washington to Donald Trump. It does so by viewing the Presidency in four ways: politics (how Presidents are nominated, elected, and operate within the American political system), policy (how Presidents use the federal government to achieve their goals), privacy (how Presidents and their family navigate their public and private lives), and posterity (how Presidents shape their legacies and how Americans remember past Presidents).

Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences observing the Presidency during their lifetimes, but this course does not require any prior knowledge about the Presidency.
