Description

Wayne Thiebaud grew up in Long Beach and is best known for his colorful, realistic paintings of commonplace objects such as pies, cakes, lipsticks, gumball machines and ice cream cones. But this is only a portion of his work. He also painted cityscapes of the steep San Francisco hills and landscapes with shifting perspectives and geometric patterns in bright, saturated colors. His figure paintings of people alone or in groups imply deep psychological stories.
