In this lecture we will examine the art and artists of the Early Renaissance, which had its beginnings in 14th century Italy. Though not as well known, artists such as Masaccio, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Fra Angelico, Donatello and Botticelli laid the groundwork for their peers in the High Renaissance These artists initiated the attempts to emulate Classical art’s concern with symmetry and naturalism searching for perfect form.
