Eleanor Roosevelt was the first lady of the US from 1933-1945 making her the longest serving first lady in US history. She represents a watershed in the role of the first lady. Before her the boundaries of the first lady’s activities had expanded gradually. After her it would be possible for her successors to do virtually anything. She is generally recognized as the most admired first lady in US history.
