Description

COVID-19 is just the most recent global viral pandemic: the last 100 years have been marked by a series of disease outbreaks like this, caused by powerful, highly pathogenic viruses and occurring at closer and closer intervals. This course will explore the biology of selected viral disease outbreaks, the global context in which they occurred and the corresponding response of science and medicine. With COVID-19 as a constant backdrop, we will use the narratives of these disease outbreaks to uncover important lessons about why this accelerating disease spiral is occurring – and what the world can do to control it.
