Description
Before European colonization, the major portion of what is now the states of Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma were home to the Osage. By the time of the first recorded visit to the confluence area in 1673, the Osage were encountered there and in control of an enormous region. Dr. Diaz-Granados will talk about the fascinating history of the Osage, the Reign of Terror in the late 1890s-early 1900s in Oklahoma, their colorful arts and culture, and their life today in Oklahoma. She will also briefly discuss the controversy of Picture Cave in Missouri, a sacred American Indian shrine with 1,000 year old drawings claimed by the Osage, and also give an overview of the award-winning book and movie, “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
