Description

Although Cuba is a mere 93 miles across the Straits of Florida from the closest tip of Key West, Florida, it is seemingly a world away. We will explore Old Havana, Art Deco Architecture, Modern Havana, Theatres, the adaptive reuse of Industrial Architecture, Matanzas and Varadero, and conclude with observations from Guenther’s visit in 2016. John C. Guenther, FAIA, LEED AP will present the evolution of architecture in Cuba over time, set in the context of its history, climate, urban planning, the performing and visual arts, government, and economy and how its legacy of social context has influenced the architectural expressions.
