The 15th Amendment was ratified on February 3, 1870. For the 1st time the Constitution gave all “men” (white & black) the right to vote. These amendments raised familiar questions of suffrage and citizenship. Some woman-suffrage advocates believed that this was their chance to push lawmakers for truly universal suffrage.
