Description

Sacagawea’s remarkable life—as mother, wife, translator, and cultural ambassador—continues to inspire curiosity and demands a deeper understanding. This session explores her role in the Corps of Discovery, where her knowledge of several Indigenous languages made her an invaluable interpreter. We will also consider the background of her husband, Toussaint Charbonneau, a trapper of French and Indigenous descent and an official member of the expedition, to better understand the context of their journey across early American frontiers.
