Description

The nude human body is depicted in myriad forms in art history, from fertility figures and gods to idealized perfect forms and stylized abstractions. For the ancient Greeks, the body was an ideal form; not so for artists during the Middle Ages and the Reformation. In this class we’ll explore how artists across time and cultures interpret the nude to convey meaning, and how their forms reveal deeply embedded religious and cultural attitudes toward the human body – and the human condition.
