Description

Ancient documents and archeological sites reveal the story of one of history’s major wars between a military superpower, the Syrian-Greeks, and a Jewish militia in the Judean Hills. The Syrian-Greeks had decided to incorporate Israel into their empire and force all Jews to adopt polytheism. Using guerilla warfare and asymmetrical tactics, the band of Jewish patriots defended their homeland and their way of life. The Jewish patriots won. The Temple was cleaned and rededicated in 162 BCE, and the holiday that followed, still celebrated today, is named Chanukah.
