Description

During his time as a St. Louis farmer in the 1850s, Ulysses S. Grant constructed a home for his family. Given the name “Hardscrabble,” this home played a short, but important role in Grant’s St. Louis experiences. Hardscrabble is the only log cabin built by a president that remains standing today. In this presentation, Historian and Curator Nick Sacco (Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site) will discuss Hardscrabble’s interesting history as a home, tourist attraction, and St. Louis landmark.
