That uncertain time between the Korean Conflict and the War in Vietnam was officially peace time, but for a generation of Americans it was a dangerous, unsettling period.
Writer/businessman Mel Rubenstein now offers an opportunity to explore these historic years in a program based upon his book The Peacetime Draft During the Cold War, in which a group of men from Syracuse, NY share their personal stories of this troubling era.
This PowerPoint presentation focuses on 12 of the storytellers and considers the effect compulsory military service had on them–their education, careers, marriages. The class will uncover events experienced in service and their impact on later civilian life, as well as various opinions on mandatory or other forms of national service. If you are a veteran and would like to share your story, time will be allotted at the end.
