Description

Artists’ training before recent times meant that most women who became professional artists were the daughters of artists. Artemisia Gentileschi, whose gory scenes of female heroines have fueled speculation about their autobiographical content, was the most famous woman artist of the 17th century. This three-session class will look at conditions for becoming an artist as a woman, and will discuss works of Gentileschi and other Renaissance and Baroque women painters.
