There was no distinction between art, natural history, science, history, and anthropology in the collections of princes and aristocrats that became the first public museums. This five-session class looks at the origins of museums, changes in their definition and roles in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and ways in which modern museums present cultural ideas.
