With so many landings in WWII, people forget that in 1915 no one had ever attempted a major amphibious landing under first before. It would have a huge impact on D-Day in 1944. This battle helped define the modern Turkish state. Teh campaign is often considered to be the beginning of Australian and New Zealand national consciousness; 25 April, the anniversary of the landings, is known as ANZAC Day, the most significan commemoration of military casualties and veterans in the two countries.
