Starvation and Circuses. Stalin begins as a bank robber who is made commissar of a minor department. Trotsky starts out with every advantage. He leads the 1905 revolution. Publishes the party newspaper. Heads the entire Red Army to victory as Minister of Defense. Lenin even writes to the rest of the party that Stalin should be removed from his offices in his will… yet this will was never read to the people and in less than a decade, Stalin is the sole ruler of the Soviet state and by 1940 Trotsky is dead.
