Description

In the Summer of 2021, U.S. forces and their partners supporting the Afghan government against the Taliba withdrew from Afghanistan. The withdrawal turned into a rout, leading to the deaths of American service men and women and many Afghan military personnel who had worked closely with the U.S. What went wrong? How did a long foreseen evacuation of U.S. personnel, civilian, and military, go so horribly wrong? What caused the U.S. to leave behind millions if not billions of dollars of equipment to use the Taliban regime that took control of the country as the U.S. departed? Why has no thorough investigation, a post-mortem or after-action review, been conducted to derive lessons learned to avoid such a debacle in the future?
